High performance jointing grout for large office development 

CHALLENGE

This large project involved construction of 28,000 m² of commercial office space at Aire Park, a 24-acre mixed development of homes, offices, retail, leisure, and public outdoor spaces on the south bank of the River Aire in Leeds city centre on the site of the former Tetleys brewery. The contractor needed a high-performance grout to finish the joints of the in-situ concrete supporting columns. The grout would need to be pumped into place and gain strength rapidly top allow work to be completed efficiently in line with the build programme.

THE SOLUTION

After discussion on the client’s requirements, Tarmac’s Specialist Products team recommended Pozament CemThix installation grout, a high early strength grout designed for grouting of joints between linked precast segments and structural support of precast panels. It has a thixotrophic and shrink resisting formula that means that it flows freely while being pumped into place but then sets and remains in place once pumping is complete. It also achieves a rapid strength gain of 27 N/mm² after 1 day, 48 N/mm² after 7 days and 70 N/mm² after 28 days. Pozament CemThix is also chloride free so it can safely be used in contact with steel bolts and reinforcement bars without risk of causing corrosion.

RESULTS AND BENEFITS

As planned around 100 tonnes of Pozament CemThix Installation Grout was supplied to this project as required by the build programme. Like all Pozament products, CemThix Installation Grout is factory blended, tested and packaged to high standards of quality control procedures in accordance with BS EN ISO 9001. It can be supplied in bags or silos depending on the quantity required. This gives us a high level of control over material consistency and results in a product that is easy to use straight from the bag or silo and delivers dependable results every time.
