Project
The experienced ground engineering contractor needed a proven construction grout for this planned rail station renovation and upgrade. Pozament GM grout was chosen for its consistent flow and strength gain characteristics and sulphate resistance.
The Challenge
A planned renovation and upgrade of Bridlington Rail Station included bridge refurbishment, platform extension and installation of lifts to make the station more accessible to people with mobility issues. The appointed contractor Van Elle has a high level of experience in building rail infrastructure having completed over 200 station projects across the UK over the last thirty years. They required a high-performance flowing grout for the platform extension works that met key specification and performance requirements. The chosen grout would need to combine consistent flow and pumped performance, guaranteed early and final strength and provide enhanced sulphate resistance.
Solution
After discussions on the client's requirements, Tarmac’s Specialist Products team recommended Pozament GM Grout, a range of quality assured, pre-blended construction grouts with excellent flow characteristics that allow them to be pumped into place. They are available in a range of strengths according to client and site requirements and are designed to resist attack by sulphates. This makes them suitable for a wide range of groundwork applications such as annulus grouting, void filling, piling and ground remediation. Supplied in pre-blended, waterproof bags, they are ISO9001 quality assured and meet the requirements set out in BS 8500-1 to achieve a sulphate resistance class of DC4.
Results and Benefits
The specific GM Grout chosen for this project was GM0.5, which tests have confirmed, achieves a minimum compressive strength of 10 N/mm2 after 1 day, 30 N/mm2 at 7 days and 44 N/mm2 at 28 days. Like all Pozament products, Pozament GM Grouts are factory blended, tested and packaged to quality control procedures in accordance with BS EN ISO 9001. Careful selection of a tried and tested grout with consistent flow characteristics and strength gain allowed work to progress quickly in line with programme times. The added sulphate resistance would help to protect the grout from ground conditions to help extend the performance life of the new platform.
