Project Brief
Pozament have been providing our Ultra High Strength Construction Grout to London’s latest eye-catching skyscraper. The requirement was for a high performance product that could be supplied in large quantities, quickly and efficiently, to a busy area at the heart of central London.
Our Ultra High Strength Construction Grout is a non shrink, very high strength cementitious grout comprising of low alkali high specific area Portland cements and other cementitious binders combined with high purity aggregates and a system of compatible admixtures to achieve high in service performance.
This grout has high flow characteristics to achieve penetration and levelling with no bleed and zero shrinkage when placed at 0.22 water solid ratio.
The Project
The Leadenhall building has also adopted the nickname ‘The Cheese Grater’ due to its unique aesthetics and is set to become one of the tallest iconic landmarks in London’s skyline. Situated directly opposite the Lloyd’s of London headquarters, the building will soar 224 meters above the city’s streets. The design for the 47-storey glass tower comes from the legendary architect Sir Richard Rogers, best known for his work on the Lloyds Building, the Millennium Dome and the Pompidou Centre in Paris.
The Leadenhall Building will offer 50 storey’s of office space and working environments. The lower three levels will be made available to the public. The public space will include shops, trees, bars, restaurants, exhibition space and soft landscaping.
Problems Faced
A project of this scale always demands the pinnacle in product performance. Combine this with working in the centre of one of Europe’s busiest cities and the logistical demands become ever greater, in order to supply a specialist product in the quantities required and to the often highly specific and restrictive delivery timescales.
Help Provided by Pozament
In addition to providing a specialist construction grout that provided the high performance characteristics necessary for the project, Pozament also worked closely with Travis Perkins to overcome the limitations on the amount of stock that could be delivered to site at any one time during the project. Planning was key and high stock levels were maintained at both the Pozament site and the Battersea branch of Travis Perkins, to allow a steady stream of smaller deliveries to be made directly for the Travis Perkins branch to the Cheese Grater building site as required.
Outcomes
The last shipment of Ultra High Strength Construction Grout was delivered to Travis Perkins in April 2013. The Leadenhall building will be officially be completed in mid 2014, but with the exteriors essentially finished now, it already makes a striking addition to the London skyline.
